PEUGEOT e-LEGEND Concept: the autonomous vehicle from PEUGEOT

AUTONOMOUS MANIFESTO

Because autonomous does not mean monotonous, and energy transition will not erase 120 years of automotive history, PEUGEOT is proud to announce the e-LEGEND CONCEPT.

#UnboringTheFuture

IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE

PEUGEOT e-LEGEND CONCEPT is not just a technological manifesto. It is the vision of the PEUGEOT Brand actively looking towards an optimistic and ultra-desirable future. For PEUGEOT, electric and autonomous are synonymous with even stronger sensations, and boredom is clearly not part of the PEUGEOT brand's DNA.

UNINHIBITED GT

Throughout the project, the PEUGEOT Style team were guided by a desire to offer a rich aesthetic, technological and immersive experience in a compact coupé. It is this realism in terms of space and proportions that makes PEUGEOT e-LEGEND CONCEPT so dynamic and enables it to embody the PEUGEOT Brand's ambition with so much modernity and energy.

IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE

Our sole objective: to feel as comfortable in your car, however you drive it, as you would in your own home. A subtle combination of high-tech components and refined materials.

SAVE TIME

With Peugeot e-LEGEND CONCEPT, the Brand’s aim is to deepen and hone the experience of the 100% autonomous, electric, connected car.

FOUR DRIVING MODES

Depending on the type of road traffic or driver’s requirements, PEUGEOT e-LEGEND CONCEPT offers four driving modes.

In self-driving mode, the interior configuration of PEUGEOT e-LEGEND CONCEPT adapts thanks to drive-by-wire technology. The steering wheel folds away under the soundbar to totally free up the 49-inch screen, the front seats tilt, the side armrests fold out automatically, opening up a large storage space and an induction charging zone for smartphones, whilst the main controls remain accessible via the centre console built into the driver’s seat.

Occupants can then enjoy their favourite leisure pursuits: playing on the built-in video game console or watching a film either on the curved central screen or on the screen in each sunshade.

100% ELECTRIC DRIVETRAIN

Fitting perfectly with the brand's vision of the energy transition, PEUGEOT e-LEGEND CONCEPT is powered by a 100% electric drivetrain.

Using 100 kWh batteries, the engine produces a torque of 800 Nm and 340 kW of power distributed to the four drive wheels. This level of performance allows it to go from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 4 seconds and to reach a maximum speed of 220 km/h. It has a range of 600 km according to the WLTP standard, of which 500 km is accessible in 25 minutes thanks to fast recharging.

PEUGEOT e-LEGEND CONCEPT nurtures the zero technological constraint spirit by offering induction charging.

AUDIO AND CONNECTED IMMERSION

In partnership with the company SOUNDHOUND Inc.®, the leader in artificial intelligence technologies, PEUGEOT e-LEGEND CONCEPT offers a voice-controlled personal assistant adapted to autonomous driving.

By saying just one phrase, the driver can change driving mode, listen to their favourite playlist and even open or close the car's electrical doors.

The system responds with the digitalised voice of Gilles Vidal (PEUGEOT Design Director) and it understands 17 languages!

A version adapted to our production cars will be available on PEUGEOT brand products within 2 years.

PEUGEOT and FOCAL are working together on the listening experience of the future, blending exacting standards with innovation to deliver a unique audio experience.

Whatever the source played, the FOCAL® acoustic architecture ensures optimal playback of the track.

Heralding the future of the built-in sound system, the system deployed in PEUGEOT e-LEGEND CONCEPT is specifically designed to offer two brand-new audio functions:

“Mapping”, which among other functions allows you to send navigation messages to the driver only, while the other occupants listen to music.

“Zoning”, which enables the total customisation of content, thus putting each passenger in their audio bubble without disturbing anyone else.

SPORTY, SENSUAL LOOKS

PEUGEOT proves that a hyper-technological car can look desirable.

The choice of a coupé silhouette for a self-driving car heightens the driving experience by utilising very modern elements, and very realistic and pragmatic dimensions and proportions. The emergence of new electric platforms opens up a host of possibilities for designers by eliminating the technical constraints of the thermal combustion engine.

To shape its technological vision, PEUGEOT e-LEGEND CONCEPT draws from the Brand’s heritage. A nod to this heritage is its reinterpretation of the major stylistic themes of the 504 coupé: a streamlined, sporty, steely and sensual silhouette with a cabin, bowed towards the rear axle, with large windows.

At the front, the car's expression is identifiable thanks to a 3-claw visual signature and two double modules reminiscent of the 504 coupé's four headlights.

The technical zone is located under the headlights, and is home to all the driving aids.

The whole of the front face is set into the front wings and divided by a black aluminium beam, a homage to chrome-look stainless steel bumpers.

At the rear, the emblematic visual signature of the PEUGEOT range also has 3 claws and is given a very technological treatment.

The 3rd brake light is set at the top of the rear screen and runs its whole width, with a multi-reflector system which reflects the light onto the rear screen.

The sides are made up of three distinct layers, including an extension of the technical platform at the bottom and plenty of glass, taking inspiration from the metal/glass ratio of the PEUGEOT 504 Coupé. These expansive glazed surfaces flood the passenger compartment of PEUGEOT e-LEGEND CONCEPT with light. The wheel arch design plays with negative space, with air ducts in the front arches. The whole design is brought together by a metal arch encircling the side windows and accentuating an inset facet-glass rear screen. Visible from the outside under its rear quarter window, a screen shows the user a personalised welcome message and the charge level before setting off. It also warns people outside that the car is operating in self-driving mode. The touch door-opening control is discreetly concealed in the side window.

The bodywork boasts a very smooth and subtly champagne-coloured grey finish.

Depending on the exterior lighting, the colour changes from chrome reflecting all its surroundings to a polished bronze metal finish.

The procedure used is similar to that applied to the bottles of the top perfume brands.

The wheels incorporate 19-inch diameter rims and MICHELIN® tyres in mass-produced sizes

providing both realism and credibility.

HIGHEST QUALITY MATERIALS

In order to create a bright, elegant passenger compartment, the designers chose warm materials, offsetting the cold digital surfaces. A contrast in the headlong rush towards all-digital.

Velvet makes a popular return. Selected in its finest-quality incarnation: smooth and very pleasing to the touch, silk velvet is judiciously mixed with a modern technical weave which offers a wider range of fabrication options. It is woven digitally and specially for PEUGEOT e-LEGEND CONCEPT from a glossy thread reminiscent of the colour of the velvet. This material is also used in PEUGEOT 3008 SUV and 5008 SUV models.

The upper parts and door sills are made from paldao wood by our partner HERVET MANUFACTURIER®. Sourced from renewable forests, this exotic wood is strongly reminiscent of 1960s furniture, which was made from rosewood or ebony. The dark grains of this wood bring out the turquoise blue of the seats and floor covering. This modern take on wood recalls the dashboards of the GT versions of the PEUGEOT 3008, 5008 and 508.

IMMERSIVE, WARM EMOTION

Our sole objective: to make you feel as comfortable in your car, as you would in your own home, through a combination of high-tech components and refined materials.

Spread throughout the passenger compartment, there are two main digital material themes (or digital interpretations of real materials): networks of bronze lines, or networks of lines that replicate a cabinetry wood effect. These themes are projected on 16 screens of different sizes, including a 49-inch curved screen under the soundbar facing the car's occupants, 29-inch screens in the doors and a 12-inch screen in each sunshade. The digital surfaces are carefully designed to integrate seamlessly and melt into the background of the passenger compartment. The centre console provides access to the main driving controls via a rotary selector and a 6-inch touchscreen. To the left of the steering wheel, a digital toggle switch offers context menu controls that can be configured according to the driving mode.

The design of the H-shaped seats and the vertical seat cushions are inspired by the PEUGEOT 504 Coupé: weight savings thanks to the most compact sizing possible, “comfort fit” combining comfort and stimulating support (like a made-to-measure suit) thanks to the use of memory foam. The headrests are transversal, adjustable and can be folded away fully into the seat.

The Responsive i-COCKPIT® capitalises on the i-COCKPIT® characteristics from other PEUGEOT models. It consists of a headset with 3-dial head-up display and an ultra-compact steering wheel.

To complete the immersion and personalisation of its interior, a fragrance diffuser scents the vehicle.

EX-NIHILO® has created two perfumes specific to PEUGEOT e-LEGEND CONCEPT.
